Diploma in Web Designing  

Overview:

Web design course aims to teach design theory and principles and how they apply to the web. In addition it is designed to :

       - Teach necessary skills, enabling learners to publish web pages.
       - Teach students how to critique web pages and web sites from design perspective.
       - Let students experiment with applying design principles to create well designed web pages.

The course is divided into three main parts, where each part is designed to enable students to systematically learn basic principles supported by practical exercises.

Course Structure:

1. Web page creation Level This module consists of mainly: 

• Introduction to the Internet

• Different types of web browsers, and brief history of HTML

• Organising files

• Creating new web pages

• Creating headings and titles

• Viewing web pages

• Web Design Issues
  - User Requirement identification
  - Usability analysis

• Formatting
  - Changing fonts
  - Changing Styles (bold, italic, …, )
  - Changing text colour, text sizes
  - Bullets and numberings

• Hyper links
  - Using texts and Images
  - Using buttons

• Adding background image

Level 2. Web design for the users: the topics that will be studied in this module are:

• Usability issues

• Requirement analysis and Design

• Tables including simple tables and nested tables with
  - Adding borders, border colour
  - Setting width
  - Table align

• Images
  - Creating Images
  - Inserting images
  - Different formats of images I
  - mages as links

• Frames
  - Creating Frames
  - Frame properties
  - Creating rows and columns
  - Adjust frames, No frames
  - Nesting pages into frames
  - Targeting links

• Forms
  - Creating forms
  - Form Objects
  - Form attributes
  - Text fields
  - Buttons
  - Radio buttons, Dropdown menu and options

Level 3 Advanced Level web design
This module will concentrate on more advanced features of HTML 4.0, client-side validation with java script and Using Multi-media tools in our web pages. The topics included in this module are:

• Computer Ethics

• Introduction to Dream-weaver

• HTML 4.0

• Cascading style sheets
  - External style sheets
  - Embedded style sheets

• JavaScript

• Multimedia tools, Introduction to Adobe Photoshop and Flash

Pre-requisites:

Certificate in Computer Applications or equivalent qualification will be advantageous for successful completion of this course.

Duration:

24 weeks to 52 weeks depending on current knowledge of web designing and extra topics you want to learn like second level Photoshop, Flash or Director.

Qualification gain:

At the end of the course the student will be awarded the certificate from the college. It also prepares you for following exams:

1. Web Page Creation - Level 1 OCR exam
2. Web Creation - Level 2 OCR exam
3. Website Authoring - Level 3 OCR exam
4. Using the Internet - First Level LCCIEB exam
5. Website Design - Second Level LCCIEB exam
6. Advanced Website Design - Third Level LCCIEB exam
