Certificate in Travel, Tourism and Hospitality

Overview:

The travel, tourism and hospitality industry is today the largest and most pervasive sector within the global economy. The need to provide quality services in a business-orientated manner requires management leadership in all the main functional business areas (finance, marketing, human resource management, and operations) as well as strategic leadership. ABE’s Travel, Tourism and Hospitality qualifications provide a pathway through which students can develop a combination of key business skills and industry knowledge in preparation for the varied and exciting careers which the industry offers.

Course Structure:

The four compulsory subjects are:
1. Introduction to Business
2. Introduction to Accounting
3. Introduction to Business Communication
4. Introduction to Travel, Tourism and Hospitality

• The Certificate papers are set and marked to A level standard.
• Following passes in the four subjects listed above, the student will be awarded the Certificate in Travel, Tourism and Hospitality.
• It is suggested that 80 study hours should be devoted to each subject.
• No exemption is granted from any subject in the certificate examination.

The Method of Assessment for all ABE subjects is by written examination and the following Grades are awarded:

Grade A - 70%+ Distinction
Grade B - 55-69% Credit
Grade C - 40-54% Pass
Grade D - 30-39% Fail
Grade E - 29% and below Fail

Candidates will be notified individually of their results normally about two months after the examinations.

Pre-requisites:

No formal qualifications are required but applicants should demonstrate competence in English by the attainment of one of the following:

British Council – Intermediate Certificate in English/Upper Advanced Certificate in English
LCCI – English for Business (EFB) 1st or 2nd level
Pitman/City and Guilds - English for Speakers of Other Languages (ESOL)/English for Business and Communication

For Practitioners Programme in Human Resource Management, applicants should also be at least 20 years of age.

Duration:

One academic year (9 months)
